A Port in the Storm: Covid-19

The outbreak of Covid-19 and the resulting changes in day to day life are a challenge to adjust to. There is anxiety and uncertainty everywhere. Not only are we dealing with a pandemic, but the economic effects. It can be difficult for athletes to deal with this added stress For those balancing work, life, and training, it's even harder. As a business, the coaching group is fairly isolated from the economic impacts. The majority of our services are digital and can be delivered as long as we have internet access, so we do not expect any disruptions. I am sure most of you have full inboxes with businesses explaining how they're dealing with the current epidemic, for JM Coaching the most important aspect is our athletes. So I’d like to focus on how you will deal with this.

I encourage everyone to look at the CDC and WHO websites for recommended practices . One of the most important points from the guidelines is the function that social distancing performs: it is not to cut off all ties from the people you care about but to spatially isolate yourself to prevent transmitting the virus. It is important to remember we need each other now more than ever. So while it is critical that everyone keep their distance and practice good hygiene, it is important that we continue to support each other.

One of the reasons I love riding and training is knowing that my bike will be there to offer a sense of agency and purpose no matter what is happening. It allows me to work off anxious energy and levels me out. I have a suspicion that if you are reading this, you find riding and training therapeutic as well. That is why having a coach has always been so much more than just someone to write workouts. When life gets complicated, a coach can offer normalcy. Workouts can allow you to focus on something else and give you a moment to process your thoughts.

Now is a time to focus on the individuals most important to us, and for JM Coaching Group those are our clients. It is the stories and personalities of our clients that make it a community instead of a group of people. To all of our clients, do not hesitate to reach out to your coach for extra support if you need it. We are here to talk. If you are looking for a coach to help you with your season we are still accepting new clients. To all I am offering 1 month of free coaching to help existing clients through a tight spot or to give new clients a chance to try us out risk free. My hope is that this will help take some stress off so we can continue to work through the challenges that we are all facing.
